In this episode, I want to talk about how to get rid of blinking cursor syndrome.

We all get it! It’s when you’re sat there in front a computer and you’re thinking, ‘what do I write??’

What do I post on Facebook? What do I tweet on Twitter? What do I stick on Instagram? What do I say in a podcast? What email should I write?

In other words, what content should I put out there that will engage with my audience and help my business?

We all suffer from it! Even the best in the business suffer from blinking cursor syndrome.

No one is always sure what it is that’s going to capture the hearts and minds of their audience.

I get blinking cursor syndrome doing this Make It Happen Monday series. Sometimes I sit there thinking, ‘what is it that people really want to know?’

Solving problems gets rid of blinking cursor syndrome!

What is really going to be valuable, useful, and helpful to somebody? You need to be solving people’s problems.

That is what you need to be thinking about for every single piece of content your create.

I heard this amazing piece of advice years ago from a guy called Marcus Sheridan, who has a blog called The Sales Lion (really worth checking out!)

Many years before he started his blog, he had a pool business. It was going down the pan, the recession had hit, and all the local businesses were struggling.

What could he do to increase his business?

He sat down and wrote out every single question that he thought his clients and potential clients would have about installing a swimming pool in their back garden.

He wrote down every single possible challenge, objection, question, and uncertainty that they could possible have, and he answered them all with copious amounts of content through his blog posts

He built up his site from all of this content, just answering all of these questions, and over the following two years, he managed to turnaround his failing business into one of the largest pool manufacturing and installation companies in the region!

This works for every single business. When you are thinking about the content you create, first you need to think about who your customer is, and get to know them intimately. If you haven’t yet watched last weeks episode on defining your customer, then do so now!

When you know who your customer is, you can then write down every single problem that requires solving in relation to your niche / sector, and the products and services you offer.

Your challenge!

Your challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is…..

Make a list of questions so you have lots of ideas for content:

1) Know your customer

If you have not yet watched Make It Happen Monday episode 59 last week, then go and watch this as it’s all about defining your ideal customer.

This will really give you a really good idea of who your customer is.

2) Research the questions your customers have

Sit down for a day and go through blog posts, Facebook, Twitter, your competitors’ websites, blog comments etc.

3) Make a list of questions

Write down each question, one after the other.

4) Answer these questions!

You now have a massive list of content ideas! Simply answer these questions, one by one, through blog posts, videos, podcasts, or whatever medium you choose to communicate in.

This exercise is lots of fun! You’ll feel really empowered and inspired by doing it.

Also, you are getting into the hearts and minds of your customers and understanding how they feel about certain things, all of which will help you with all of your brand messaging and marketing as you grow your business!
