Why Everyone Needs A Neil

Welcome to Episode 15 of Make it Happen Monday!

Published every Monday, this is my weekly video series helping you to blast through any barriers holding up your success in life and business and giving you weekly tips and inspiration to move forward to achieve your goals and dreams.

If you’re starting an online lifestyle business, you are probably drowning in technical data. You have to juggle a website, blog, social media platforms, email, landing pages, and the list just goes on! It’s overwhelming just thinking about it!

I learned early on that I was wasting hours and hours of valuable time trying to wade through all this technical stuff.

Thankfully, I found Neil! Neil manages all things technical in my business. I don’t know where I’d be without him.

On this week’s Make It Happen Monday, I’m talking about the importance of outsourcing so you can find your very own Neil and start getting smarter about your time management.

Today, I would like to talk about why everybody needs a ‘Neil’

Let me introduce you to Neil Farley, my technical Guru!

Neil has been with me for about 4-5 years now and he looks after everything technical in my business.

My websites, landing pages, spam, the server, hosting, building my membership sites, product sites, security issues, updates… anything and everything technical!

In other words, I would really struggle to run my business without Neil.

I know many of you are starting out building your online lifestyle business, and you’re likely to be currently knee deep in technical stuff.

In any kind of online business, you’re going to be using online platforms. These platforms technically have the propensity to go wrong at any given moment of the day, to the point that you want to throw your computer out of the window most of the time!

I’ve been there many times with head in hand, tears rolling down my face, screaming “It won’t work!”

You shouldn’t be trying to figure all these things out on your own

Let me tell you a story that happened BN (i.e. Before Neil)

A few years ago, I was desperately trying to figure out how to put a PayPal button on my sales page.
So I signed up for a PayPal account, I’d got the button and I’d got the code. I put the code on the sales page and clicked on the PayPal button.

As soon as I clicked on the cart, the sales page disappeared. I didn’t want that! I had a video on my sales page and, if somebody clicked on the button, I wanted the video to keep playing and the cart page to open in another tab.
Could I figure this out? Not for the life of me! It took me five hours to figure out how to place this one piece of code correctly.

What a complete and utter waste of my valuable time.
I could have been out there getting visits to this sales page, making sales, convincing people to buy, making money etc rather than spending hours trying to figure out this tiny little piece of code.

Had I just asked somebody who knew more than I did, it would have been fixed within a few minutes.

Stop trying to figure things out alone!

If you’re anything like me, you’re doing the same thing. You’re out there trying to figure it all out on your own.
Why? Because you believe you can’t afford to outsource it to other people.

You can’t afford NOT to outsource!
I’m not just talking about the technical aspects either. It’s about any aspect of your business that you are currently doing that is taking up lots of your time.

Time that could be spent doing the things that impact your business the most.

I don’t have the financial resources to employ someone

I get it. You’re running a small business, or you’ve just started up a business.

But there is no need to actually employ someone full time. You don’t have to put somebody on the payroll.
Below this video, I’ve put a link to a website called www.upwork.com. It’s not an affiliate link, I make no money from recommending you.

It’s just a site that I use regularly to find talented people who know more about stuff than I do, and they do contracted work for me on various things.

Work out what you spend lots of time doing in your business that is NOT having a direct impact on sales.
Now, look for talented people who you can outsource this to, project by project.

I highly recommend you begin looking for people sooner rather than later.

It will give you time to grow and do the stuff that is going to have the biggest impact on your business.
You are an entrepreneur. You are a small business owner. The faster you start outsourcing these little tasks, the faster your business will grow.

Your challenge!

Your challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is…

Outsource tasks in your business:
1) Think of something you’re doing right now that you don’t want to do / need to do.

What could someone else do that would give you more time to do other things that have a bigger impact on your business?

Do you struggle with building a blog, landing pages, opt-in funnels, autoresponder campaign sequences, designing graphics and logos?

You might be a genius coder! In that case, what do you spend lots of time on that you don’t enjoy?

Do you hate writing blog posts? Hate recording podcasts or videos?

2) Outsource it!

Once you’ve decided on a task, go to somewhere like www.upwork.com, www.fiverr.com.www.microworkers.com … there’s lots of other sites.
My recommendation is Upwork, but it’s your choice. Go and find somebody who can do that task for you.
Find somebody to write a blog post, record podcasts, design graphics, design logos etc.

Find people to build your landing pages, opt-in funnel, sales funnel, auto responder campaign sequences…… an entire blog, if necessary!

3) Fill your ‘spare time’ with tasks that will earn money

If you’re going to pay somebody to do a job for you, make sure you fill that time with stuff that’s going to earn the money back to pay for that resource.

That’s the whole point here. Don’t use it as an excuse to take it easy!
If you fill the time saved doing tasks that earn money, even start-up businesses will have money to outsource from the word go.
